Asbestos containing materials (ACM’s) can be found in any industrial or residential building built or refurbished before the year 2000. Below are some of the many common materials used in the building trade that you may come across during work in a commercial or residential premises.
Asbestos fibres were used for their useful properties of high tensile strength, sound absorption, heat resistance and resistance to electricity and corrosive chemicals.
The most common types found in the UK are Chrysotile (white asbestos), Amosite (brown asbestos), Crocidolite (blue asbestos), while more uncommon types, fibrous Actinolite, fibrous Anthophyllite and fibrous Tremolite are found only found in rare cases.
